Invitation to Valentine's Art Show with information about featured artists.
Gerda Miller received a degree with a major in art from the University of Alberta in 1983. Her art has been featured at solo and joint shows at The Works, the Wildrose Gallery, WalterdaleTheatre, The Front Gallery, Muttart Conservatory, Strathcona Leisure Centre and Polo’s restaurant in Edmonton and the Allied Art Gallery in Spruce Grove. Spirit of Hope United Church was honoured to receive a generous donation of several of her beautiful creations that are featured throughout the newly renovated Spirit of Hope United Church building. Gerda’s style is influenced by a love of the French Impressionists and the Canadian Group of Seven. She constantly finds nature in all its guises fascinating, and tries to recreate the movement of light and shifts in colour that she sees in her paintings. Eva Cooper is a retired retail operations manager. After retirement, her daughter gave her a supply of paints and dotting tools, and she discovered how relaxing and calming dot painting can be. She enjoys experimenting with a variety of interesting painting techniques, styles, bases and media, working on improving with each piece she does. She will display many of her beautiful creations at the show, including Australian and Mandela dot painting on glass pebbles, rock, metal, wood and canvas; mandala dot painting on rock; acrylic poured painting on rock and canvas and stained-glass painting on glassware and acrylic. Gordon Riffi was born and raised in Kugluktuk, Nunavut. In 2019 he moved to Edmonton. Gordon was taught soapstone carving by the elders when he was in high school. When he was 21 years old, he decided to get more serious about carving to make a living for his family. His favourite carvings are igloos, qilut drums, hunting tools and the Inuit sea goddess, Sedna. He taught carving to students from elementary through high school during the day, and to adults in the evening. In 2011 Gordon began the Metal and Jewelry Arts Program at the Nunavut Arctic College in Iqaluit. Since then he has enjoyed creating sterling silver mother-daughter, tuktu (caribou) and ulu earrings, broaches, bracelets, necklaces and rings. His sterling silver jewelry will be available for sale at this event. Heather Green enjoys working with fabric to create quilts and placemats; and taking photos, especially when she is in the mountains. She generously shares her scenic photos by making cards. During the past year, she has sold her beautiful yellow and blue placemats to raise funds to go to the Mission & Service Fund for Ukraine. You will have the opportunity to view and purchase her beautiful placemats and cards Pam McLarty-Mueller is a gifted and passionate artist. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting for less than a decade. Her love for nature and animals led her to paint many interesting, delightful and inspiring paintings. She is observant and patient and that is reflected in her paintings. She paints with acrylic, and many of her pieces are displayed in a wing of one of the Edmonton area Health Centres. Marla Shole is an Edmonton artist who loves depicting the colour and variety of our Alberta landscapes using oil, watercolour, and pastels. At this event she plans to feature her new affordable wood block paintings. Terry Lynn LaFleur Following her retirement from a very rewarding 40-year career as a Medical Laboratory Technology Assistant, my hobby became a passion. The joy of creating beaded jewelry for others comes in many ways - from sourcing the beads, designing each individual piece, to meeting the people. Her works include bracelets, earrings, anklets, necklaces, keychains/ purse jewelry and closure pins.
