SUMMARY:CCS Friday - An Ecology of Faith Formation
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centre for Christian Studies (CCS) on Friday\, March 15 (noon Central\, 1pm Eastern\, 11am Mountain\, 10am Pacific\, 2pm Atlantic) for an online conversation about the eco-system of faith formation in congregations. Our special guest will be UCC Growth Animator Greg Smith-Young. \nWithin creation\, ecosystems form as different and diverse creatures (living and non-living) interact together. Each part plays a vital role in making the whole. Ecosystems are about interdependence and integration. What can happen when we bring an “ecosystem” way of thinking into the faith formation work of congregations? Join us as we imagine the possibilities. \nGreg Smith-Young (he/him) is a Growth Animator with the United Church of Canada. He serves alongside existing and newly-forming communities of faith in southwest Ontario\, helping them to share in what Jesus is already doing in their places: inviting\, welcoming\, engaging\, forming disciples\, and sending to share in God’s Presence. \nCCS Fridays are free. Please register to receive a zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwsceGsqzIuHtcJfObCM1xhPf4sRLMj18nC#/registration \nCCS Fridays are online conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts. These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Each session will be on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 CT and in the form of a Zoom workshop. There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing\, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups.

SUMMARY:CCS Friday: Creating Harmonious Space
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, February 23 from 12:00 to 1:00 CST join an online conversation about creating “harmonious space” rather than “safe space”. Harmonious space is the condition in which diversity and inclusion truly grow. Guided by author and educator bell hooks\, who said\, “ Learning takes place in harmonious space” and “Community that allows for risk\, the risk of knowing someone outside your own boundaries is love.” We will consider harmony and risk as opposed to “safety” as the best environment suitable for diversity. \nOur special guest will be Deaconess Adrainne Gray. Adrainne was consecrated a Lutheran Diaconal Association (LDA) deaconess and ordained an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) deacon in 2017. She is currently the Director for Recruitment for the LDA with a focus on Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion and works remotely from her home in Atlanta\, GA. \nCCS Fridays are free. Please register to receive a zoom link:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0kcOCoqz8tGtf4EgB269gUXM_d-r_sSrqc#/registration \nCCS Fridays are online conversations to help us respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts. SUMMARY:Memorial Service for Omega Chilufya Bula
DESCRIPTION:Memorial Service for Omega Chilufya Bula: Monday February 6th 2023 at 8 AM EST (6 AM Mountain Time). \nA great Tree has fallen\n   – (African proverb)   \nIt is with broken hearts that people of The United Church of Canada mourn the passing of Omega Chilufya Bula\, Beloved Justice Leader\, Sister\, Elder\, Pioneer\, Mentor\, Friend and Colleague. Omega passed away in Lusaka\, Zambia on January 31 2023. Her son Mwai Bula shared the sad news that Omega passed away from heart complications after a long battle with cancer. \nOmega leaves an incomparable legacy of ecumenical leadership in the struggle for racial\, gender\, economic and social justice in her home country of Zambia\, across the African continent\, in The United Church of Canada\, and globally. She served in the General Council Offices in the Division of World Outreach as Area Secretary for Southern Africa and Gender Justice\, as the first-ever Racial Justice Minister\, and as Executive Minister of the former Justice\, Global and Ecumenical Relations (JGER) and Partners in Mission Units (PIM). Her commitment to partnership led to the formation of the Partner Council\, and was instrumental in shaping the Principles of Global Partnership that guide the global partnership program of The United Church of Canada today. \nThe global ecumenical movement has lost one of its greatest leaders\, and Omega will be deeply missed. \n“Well done\, good and faithful servant”.   \n(In Bemba):  Ichibote cha kwa Lesa chende naimwe (God’s peace go with you)  \n  \nThe United Church of Canada is hosting an online space on Zoom on Monday\, February 6th 2023 at 8 AM ET. where those who knew Omega Bula can gather to pray\, to remember her\, and to sing her soul to rest with God. Please join us. The Zoom link can be found on this page.  \nWe ask for your help to share this email with those whom you know of who would wish to join the online memorial who may not be aware of the online gathering. \n♥

SUMMARY:CCS Fridays: Getting rid of us and them in the church
DESCRIPTION:In this session with new CCS program staff\, Rev. Alcris Limongi\, we will briefly name the processes of exclusion\, marginalization\, and structural inequality that are often unexamined in the church—what we call othering—and seek actions that move towards a church of belonging where there is mutual power\, access\, and opportunity for all people who share the space. SUMMARY:CCS Friday - Becoming an Anti-Racist Church
DESCRIPTION:Join an online conversation to explore more about what it might mean to become an anti-racist church. How does an organization continue the process of institutional change to become a more intentionally anti-racist one? Together\, we’ll explore a continuum for becoming an anti-racism organization as well as the United Church’s national anti-racism action plan. The conversation will be facilitated by Adele Halliday\, who is the Anti-Racism and Equity Lead staff at the United Church’s General Council Office. \nAn experienced anti-racism educator\, workshop leader\, and award-winning writer\, Adele has been involved in anti-racism work with churches in Canada and beyond for many years. She is currently staff resource to the United Church’s Anti-Racism Common Table. She holds a Master of Education as well as a Master of Theological Studies\, and is currently studying towards a Doctor of Education. Adele lives in Toronto\, Ontario\, Canada. \nCCS Fridays: \nOnline conversations to help us all to respond faithfully to emerging issues in local contexts. These workshops are open to anyone who might be interested. Each session will be on a Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 Central (Winnipeg time) and in the form of a Zoom workshop. There will be a presentation that will be recorded for future viewing\, plus opportunities to engage with the ideas in small groups. \nSessions are free but you must register.\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEkcuihqzspHtTmzSydBr3p3D-HMsqeODZi
