DESCRIPTION:The Regional Council is travelling to you! The weekend of April 25 and 26\, all of Northern Spirit is invited to join us in Grande Prairie for a time of connection\, learning\, and worship. \nWhere: Grande Prairie\, AB\, St. Paul’s United Church\, 10206 100 Ave.\, T8V 0V6 (Google Maps link) \nWhen: Saturday\, April 25\, and Sunday\, April 26\, 2026 \nWhat: Saturday will include workshops\, a lunch\, and time to gather together. Join us Sunday morning for worship\, and then a time for fellowship and coffee. \nWho: All of Northern Spirit are welcome to attend. Understanding the geographical realities of our wide Region\, we are planning future connection events in other locations that may be closer to you. \n*Please note that this is not an Annual Meeting. Our 2026 Annual Meeting will be held online\, November 2026; but there are still opportunities to gather in person! Future connection events are also in planning\, for those not neighbouring Grande Prairie or those who can’t attend in April. Our next Connection Event is being planned for Fall 2026 in the Southern part of our Region. \nCost: This event is free to attend. Registration includes coffee and tea\, and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Please note that the Region is not organizing hotels for those who will be travelling into the city\, and there will not be a dinner provided on Saturday. SUMMARY:Celebration of Ministries and 100th Anniversary service
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person at Riverbend United Church\, and online on YouTube\, as we honour past and future with prayer\, worship\, and song! YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/live/qjPnIQkVnwo  If you’re joining us by livestream\, please bring communion elements. \nGeneral Secretary Rev Michael Blair will offer the sermon. We  will welcome people into the order of ministry in the United Church via admission from other denominations and share in communion. We celebrate together the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada\, born June 10\, 1925. ASL interpretation will be offered. \nAll are welcome to this service- and we mean all!  We are a Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ affirming Regional Council. The deaf and hard of hearing community is especially welcome as we work with ASL interpretation for the first time; hearing assist is also available in-person. \nCommunion is a deeply meaningful religious and spiritual ritual for Christians\, and the United Church believes that the communion table is Christ’s\, not ours. It is therefore open to everyone of all beliefs and religious\, spiritual\, and ceremonial paths. At communion\, we eat a small amount of bread and drink a little grape juice (the United Church does not use wine for communion). There will be a gluten-free option.  If you are worshipping online\, please bring communion elements that have meaning to you. \n

SUMMARY:Learning gathering on unmarked burials
DESCRIPTION:Our Sacred Responsibilities: learning from the Unmarked Burials report and challenging settler denial. \nAll people of all backgrounds welcome to this day-long learning gathering\, open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. We will focus somewhat on the United Church’s responsibilities\, but all backgrounds are welcome as a full part of the day\, and we will not focus only on the United Church. \nTogether we will learn about the recent report on unmarked burials; explore what reparations means; learn about the problem of settler denialism; and practice together how to challenge it. Speakers and knowledge keepers will help us\, and all who come are full participants in helping each other and our communities create a good path forward. \nCommunity\, prayer\, ceremony\, and cultural supports will be part of our day. A separate support space is also available to First Nations\, Métis and Inuit\, respecting that this is a hard topic. \nPractical details\nPlease click here to register. Our day will include (among other things): prayer and ceremony; an overview of key parts of the report on unmarked burials; reflection from a survivor; what do we and the report mean by “reparations”; what is settler denial\, and how can we challenge it? \nOur space: The building is fully accessible\, and we will be using mics to assist those with hearing needs. We will be in a space where Christian symbols are minimal\, and where smudging and medicines will be part of our day. There is parking on site\, and transit a block away. DESCRIPTION:Anti-racism action planning for communities of faith weekly in June: register now!\nNorthern Spirit\, Living Skies\, and Prairie to Pine Regional Councils invite at least one lay member and one ministry personnel from up to 24 communities of faith within our bounds to this series. In four weekly sessions June 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29\, 6:30-8:00 PM Mountain Daylight\, we’ll focus on the new book Wait- is this racist? We’ll also bring this work into the Canadian and United Church context with resource people and a focus on the United Church’s Anti Racism Action Plan. \nFacilitation team: Russel Burns (National Indigenous Council)\, Jordan Cantwell (Living Skies)\, and Paul Douglas Walfall (Northern Spirit)\, with possibly more TBA. DESCRIPTION:Calling all ministries and people who are LGBTQIA+ and Two Spirit-affirming\, or 2SLGBTQIA yourselves. We know COVID is making Affirming work harder\, even as it also makes life harder for trans\, non- binary\, queer\, Two Spirit and questioning people- especially youth and elders. \nSo you’re invited to an Affirming get-together for Northern Spirit\, Tuesday March 2\, 6:30-8:30PM Mountain. \nCome out to this check in and reminder of resources that are out there to help your ministry. Give and receive some good energy and support. You don’t need to be officially Affirming to come.
