SUMMARY:Public event: Filipino peasant farmers leader
DESCRIPTION:The Philippine Peasant Farmer Movement is coming to Edmonton! \nDanilo “Ka Daning” Ramos is a veteran peasant farmer leader and one of the most respected voices of the Filipino Farmer’s Movement. He currently stands as the National Chairperson of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP)\, advancing the rights and struggles of millions of peasants\, farm workers\, youth\, women\, and Indigenous peoples across the Philippines. \nKa Daning’s tour comes amid intensified militarization and human rights abuses against peasant farmers and Indigenous communities at the hands of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and backed by foreign US forces\, with continued land dispossession\, displacement\, kidnappings\, and bombings. \nThe recent Canada-Philippine Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SOVFA) will see Canadian troops on the ground in the Philippines backing the AFP. This will result in continued violence against farmers\, repression of resistance to destructive Canadian mining operations\, and escalation for war with China through the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPT) and the upcoming Balikatan War Games. \nPhilippine Edmonton Solidarity Organization (PESO)\, Anakbayan Edmonton\, and Migrante Alberta\, call on our allies to build international solidarity with the Filipino Peasants Movement\, and to come out and learn from Ka Daning on the struggles for land reform\, rural development\, people’s rights\, and national liberation.\nUnited Church people: The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines is a sponsor of brother Danilo’s visit\, and they are a longtime United Church partner here in Canada. We are also close companions of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines\, and together the people of the United Church have long been involved in challenging Canadian complicity in human rights violations throughout the archipelago. Canadian mining companies have had serious impacts in the Philippines\, in part because they are often protected by the Filipino military. This new military agreement is a serious concern. We are invited to learn in community. \nInterested in supporting or getting involved? – Fill out our interest form today: tinyurl.com/KDTEDM \nOr contribute to our fundraising efforts:\n– Etransfer with note “Ka Daning” to\n– migrantealberta@gmail.com \n

SUMMARY:God-Talks from Diasporic Filipino Ministers in the UCC
DESCRIPTION:Our lunch time Intercultural Coffee Chai series resumes! \nThursday\, Sept 25\, 2025\, 12:30pm MDT and CST/1:30pm CDT (90 minutes). \nIntercultural Stories and Narratives: God-Talks from Diasporic Filipino Ministers in the United Church of Canada \nBring your lunch and join us as we resume the Western Intercultural Ministries Network 100th Anniversary series honouring ethno-cultural communities within the United Church. \nThe Filipino Ministers Network in The United Church of Canada invites you to join them for a panel discussion about seeking God in the midst of every-day life. In the Philippines\, theologizing is embodied in everyday life; not seen as a separate religious category or exercise. Faith grows out of our lived experience: life-stories\, turning points\, crises and celebrations. God is active in shaping our everyday decision-making. \nWe’ve invited three Filipino ministers to reflect on their own faith-journeys\, and describe how they have come to talk about God differently with each other\, and with the congregations they lead. They’ll talk about how being immigrants to Canada has shaped their understanding of God\, and how theologies emerging in the Philippines can enrich their life and work within the Canadian church and culture. \nJoin us to broaden your theological imagination! \nZoom info:\nhttps://united-church.zoom.us/j/81253431672?pwd=Bg3Wb0bPR1IvIn48wLLyZLw2GPL6Yi.1 \nMeeting ID: 812 5343 1672        Password: 231524 \nPhone as needed: 855 703 8985 Canada Toll-free \nPanelists\, Topics\, and Bios\n\n\nRev. SUMMARY:Stand with Me: Palestinian Children and Military Detention - A workshop
